An ancient religious cross, worth $1 million and donated by a big mobster in the 1930s, is stolen while being transported by car from Mexico to the United States. Banacek begins the task of searching for the object.

November 15, 1972: To Steal A King

The collection was to have been auctioned for $3 million and Banacek discovers there was a rivalry between the owner of the collection and his competitor.

Bradshaw), Michael Masters (Steve Crawford). A tycoon, confined to a wheelchair, is persuaded to display his priceless Book of Hours, but the book vanishes just before it is shown. Banacek is brought in to unravel the mystery.

January 24, 1973: The Greatest Collection Of Them All

A fortune in paintings, billed as the world's greatest collection of French Impressionists, is stolen en route from New York to Boston.

February 7, 1973: The Two Million Clams Of Cap'n Jack

The case is complicated because the UFC was about to take over a restaurant chain, and both firms have suspicious backgrounds.

The second season starts with Banacek being called in when a huge $3 million sculpture disappears just before its unveiling. He takes the assignment with the understanding from the insurance company that he will get 10 percent of the sculpture's value if he recovers it within two days. Working more or less with him -- but anxious to find the sculpture before he does -- is insurance investigator Carlie Kirkland (Christine Belford, a new regular in the series).

Banacek tries to find out how the large coach could have been removed from a steel container that was welded shut, with only a six-inch square hole cut into the container with an acetylene torch.
