Season 1, episode 1
With Parker Fennelly (Mr. Purdy), Bruce Garrick (Student), Butch Patrick (Ritchie), Erica Chandler (Louise), Michael Shea (Wayne), Edward Petherbridge (Parsons). Andy Griffith returns to weekly TV in a comedy which finds him as the headmaster of a small private high school in the San Fernando Valley. In the first episode one of the students is rejected by his classmates, including his teammates on the football team, because he won't "turn on" with them at off-campus parties.

With Maureen Arthur (Catherine McArdle), Gladys Holland (Mme. Bernard), Susan Ruben (Susan), Chris Pinna (Student). When a new, mini-skirted teacher becomes an instant hit with her creative writing class - as well as coach Brownell - headmaster Thompson decides to reconsider his school's free dress code.

With Mitch Vogel (Billy), Florence Lake (Miss Graham). Andy Thompson is confronted with the problem of an excellent student who cracks under the pressure of trying to be perfect like his older brother.

With Ron Howard (Tony Landis), Jean LeBouvier (Mrs. Landis), James Inglehart (Officer), Robert Cleaves (Mr. Landis). A good pupil suddenly becomes a troublemaker when he learns that he is an adopted child.

The students learn an important object lesson when they are allowed to form a "new society" camp in the forest where each can do his own thing without the restrictions of law and order.
