Darren McGavin stars as a dynamic and dogged reporter who pursues stories that appear bizarre and supernatural, and then prove to be true. Vampires, werewolves, esoteric phenomena or strange occult forces are the subjects he investigates to get his story. In the first show, a serial killer who preys on women haunts Chicago, and Kolchak comes to believe that the killer is the original Jack the Ripper, a seemingly immortal killer who has slain women in many cities over the last century.
