Debut of a series about the humble proprietor of a 24-hour market who tries to cope with his wife's wacky teenage son and assorted neighborhood weirdos. In the opening episode, Gordon looks for a new night manager for the store. The candidates include his inept stepson, a hostile munchkin and a fugitive from the law.

While Gretchen bemoans the lack of romance in her marriage, Terry and his girlfriend are so wrapped up in each other that they fail to notice a motorcycle crashing through the window.

Fed up with Gordon's abuse, Terry packs his two T-shirts and his pet worms and hits the road to take a job at the Bates Motel.
