A series built around the life of a young aspiring singer-musician and the 5-year-old daughter of his deceased wife. In the first show, Sam Hayden tries to be a good father while attempting to succeed as lead singer in a group.

A social worker investigates to see if Sam is taking adequate care of Jill, so Sam puts in plants and pot roasts and puts out his musician buddies.

Sam gets pneumonia and a week in the hospital while his buddies take care of Jill.
