A hard-boiled bachelor cop has his life turned upside down when a street-tough orphan and his dog are put in his protective custody. In the first episode, overweight and middle-aged Officer Murphy falls victim to an asthma attack while trying to apprehend a youthful black shoplifter and his pet.

Officer Frank Murphy is enthusiastic about an undercover assignment until he learns he has to dress like an old woman to catch a purse snatcher.

Lucas learns a lesson from his father, that gambling doesn't pay. He decides to run a football pool instead -- setting up his operation in the police station.
