A series based on the life and career of police Det. David Toma, whose unorthodox methods of investigation won him national fame. In the first show, an ex-convict friend of Toma's is arrested for the murder of a city councilman.

October 11, 1973: Ambush On 7th Avenue

With Geoffrey Deuel (Donald Harkness / Larry Tabscot), Victor Arnold, Claire Brennan, Roy Jenson, Vic Vallaro. While investigating a gangland killing, Toma is given the added responsiblility of a university student observer whose interest in the case proves to be more than academic.

Despite the protests of the victim's wealthy, neurotic mother, Toma investigates the kidnapping of an 18-year-old boy he once picked up for possession of marijuana.

With Skye Aubrey (Shirley Whittaker), Jared Martin (Lenny Phillips), Don Gordon (Alex Keever), Oscar DeGruy (Buzz), James V. Christy (Plainclothesman), David Toma (Market Manager). Despite a warning from the inspector, Toma takes on a partner to help keep track of an attractive young woman who may lead him to a multi-million dollar stash of cocaine.

Dave is suspended after being set up by the head of a crime syndicate to take the blame for the near-fatal beating of a hoodlum.

Dave Toma poses as a priest in order to gain the cooperation of female victims of an attacker whose trademark is a ski mask.

Dave Toma infiltrates a major baby-selling operation in which newborn infants are sold for up to $25,000 to couples unable to adopt through legal agencies.

With William Daniels (Connell), Bruce Kirby, Hilly Hicks, Michael Baseleon (Harry), Michael Richardson, James G. Richardson. Having penetrated a gang planning a multi-million dollar bank heist, Dave is forced to participate in the entire caper because of a change in plans.

Dave Toma poses as a stevedore on the East Coast docks to investigate corruption and a murder arising out of strife between rival factions of a union local.

With Jack Bender (Manny), Gianni Russo (Minnett), Regis Cordic (Santelli). Outraged by the addiction of his nephew, Dave assumes a number of phony identities to reach the chief of a major drug import operation.

April 12, 1974: The Madam

With Ina Balin, Suzanne Charny. Posing as a wealthy Italian businessman, Dave becomes friendly with the proprietress of a call girl ring to nail a procurer who turns young girls on to drugs to "turn them out" as prostitutes.

With Ray Danton (Al Dancer), Jack Krupnick (Bartender), Pepper Martin (Crackers), Mike Robelo (Willie Dee), Joseph Della Sorte (Lucius Carbon), Joseph Hindy (Jack Angelus), Val Bisoglio (Johnny Lippy), Hildy Brooks (Edie Angelus). Toma's marriage is threatened when his wife Patty refuses to reveal information about a shakedown operation in which her former boyfriend is involved.

April 26, 1974: Indictment

With Quinn Redeker, Jess Walton (Helen), Jamie Farr (Barney), Antonio Fargas, Marc Alaimo, Dick Balduzzi, Edward Faulkner (Lewis), John Kerr (Prosecutor). While working on a murder case, Toma discovers a real estate fraud which leads to a grand jury investigation of a corrupt politician.

May 10, 1974: The Accused

Heffren), Ted Gehring (Liquor Store Owner). After a fellow officer allegedly "murders" a youth, Toma is compelled to find out whether or not the shooting was justified. (Last show of the series.)
