The Cardinals' acquisition of Dick Allen from the Phillies in their search for power began paying off when the slugger smashed a homer and two doubles in a 7-2 victory over the Expos before an opening-game crowd of 21,173 at Jarry Park. After the Expos took a 2-0 lead against Bob Gibson in the first inning, Allen doubled and counted on a single by Joe Hague in the fourth, and then hit his homer to tie the score in the eighth.
