A five-run outburst in the fifth inning helped carry the Angels to an 11-7 victory over the Royals behind the relief pitching of Mel Queen. With Roger Repoz hitting a two-run homer, the Angels were ahead, 4-1, going into their big inning. The first run of the frame scored on a pass to Bill Voss with the bases loaded. Alex Johnson doubled to drive in two tallies and two more followed on a sacrifice fly by Jim Spencer and a single by Joe Azcue.

Ed Kirkpatrick batted in three runs for the Royals with a homer and double, while Luis Alcaraz accounted for two RBIs with a triple. [The Sporting News]
