A two-run single by Reggie Jackson in the seventh inning enabled the Athletics to defeat the Brewers, 2-1, behind the three-hit pitching of Catfish Hunter and Diego Segui before an Oakland opening-night crowd of 26,270. Hunter yielded only two hits but was losing, 1-0, on an unearned run before the A's rallied. Tito Francona batted for Hunter in the seventh and singled. After one out, Rick Monday also singled and Sal Bando, running for Francona, took third. Felipe Alou flied to Danny Walton, Monday advancing to second.
