Manager Bill Rigney made his first appearance in Anaheim with the Twins and enjoyed 8-2 victory over the Angels, who had fired him as their leader last May.

The Twins scored all their runs with the aid of three homers in the sixth-inning explosion. Cesar Tovar led off with a circuit clout. Rod Carew reached second when Alex Johnson dropped his curving fly ball, and scored on a single by Tony Oliva. After Harmon Killebrew walked and Rich Reese was hit by a pitched ball, Brant Alyea smashed a grand-slam to kayo Andy Messersmith.
