Tom Seaver pitched the first complete game to the credit of the Mets' staff this season and Bud Harrelson hit the club's first homer of the year to mark a 6-0 victory over the Phillies. Harrelson's clout off Grant Jackson in the first inning also was the first over-the-fence homer of the infielder's major league career. His only other round-tripper came on an inside-the-park drive August 17, 1967, in Pittsburgh. Harrelson added a triple and single to his hit collection in support of Seaver, who won his second game of the year and 12th straight in regular-season play since last August 9. [The Sporting News] |
