. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After collecting only four hits off Mike Cuellar in a 4-3 loss, the Yankees broke loose for 17 hits and defeated the Orioles in the second game of a doubleheader, 8-5. Davey Johnson batted in the first three runs for the Orioles in the opener with a single and homer. What proved to be the deciding marker counted in the seventh on a single by Merv Rettenmund, a stolen base and a double by Frank Robinson.

The Yankees went ahead to stay in the nightcap when Roy White and Curt Blefary singled, Pete Ward tripled and Jake Gibbs hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Horace Clarke gathered five of the Yankees' hits. Andy Etchebarren and Chico Salmon smashed homers for the Orioles. [The Sporting News]
