After Ed Kirkpatrick and Bob Oliver combined to save the Royals from defeat, Kirkpatrick tripled and scored on an error in the 11th inning and Oliver followed with his second homer of the game to beat the Athletics, 4-2. Dick Green and Dave Duncan homered for the A's, but a possible shutout victory slipped from Blue Moon Odom's hands when Kirkpatrick singled in the ninth and Oliver tied the score with a two-out homer.

After Kirkpatrick's triple in the 11th, Amos Otis walked. Otis then stole second and when Duncan threw wildly, Kirkpatrick scored. Otis reached third but was out when Oliver missed an attempted squeeze bunt. Quickly making amends, Oliver hit a home run on the next pitch. [The Sporting News]
