The red-hot Reds smashed seven homers, two by Bernie Carbo and one each by Jonnny Bench, Tony Perez, Dave Concepcion, Bobby Tolan and Pete Rose, to defeat the Braves, 13-8. Rico Carty, Orlando Cepeda and Felic Millan homered for the Braves.

The two-club total of 10 tied the N. L. record for most homers in a night game. The mark was set by these same two clubs on August 10, 1956, in a game at Cincinnati. [The Sporting News]
