Getting his the first two major league hits, Elliott Maddox drove in one run and scored another as the Tigers defeated the Indians, 5-3, for their the sixth straight victory. Homers by Vada Pinson and Eddie Leon, Pinson's blow coming with a man on base, gave the Indians a 3-0 lead, but the Tigers pulled even in the fourth, with a single by Maddox producing the tying tally. In the ninth, Maddox beat out an infield hit and scored the tie-breaking run on a double by Cesar Gutierrez. Al Kaline followed with a single to plate an insurance marker.
