The Pirates erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead and then staved off the Astros to gain a 9-8 victory. Jim Wynn batted in five runs for the Astros, three with a double in the third and two with a homer in the seventh. The Pirates' big inning began with a double by Manny Sanguillen and infield hit by Gene Alley. Bill Mazeroski doubled for one run and Matty Alou followed with a single to plate two tallies. After Richie Hebner forced Alou, Roberto Clemente homered for what proved to be the winning blow. [The Sporting News]
