Carl Yastrzemski, who had been hitless in seven straight trips to the plate and had only one hit in his last 15 tries, came through with a tie-breaking single in the seventh inning to send the Red Sox off to a 5-2 victory over the Orioles. Reggie Smith, who singled and stole second, scored on Yastrzemski's hit. The Red Sox iced the decision with two runs in the eighth on a single by Rico Petrocelli, double by Luis Alvarado and single by Jerry Moses. [The Sporting News]
