After both clubs scored five runs in the third inning, the relief pitching of John Cumberland, who gained his first major league victory, enabled the Yankees to defeat the Senators, 11-6. Cumberland yielded four hits in six and one-third innings and the only run off his deliveries was unearned. In addition, the rookie lefthander drove in a run with a single in the fourth when the Yankees scored three times to break a 5-5 tie. [The Sporting News]
