In a battle of seven homers, the Orioles defeated the Royals, 7-5. Mike Cuellar, Frank Robinson and Boog Powell connected for the Orioles, while the Royals had two homers by Bob Oliver and one apiece by Jackie Hernandez and Amos Otis.

Robinson started the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning. Cuellar hit his round-tripper with a man on base in the second to send the Orioles ahead, 4-1. However, the Royals began their bombardment and consecutive homers by Otis and Oliver in the sixth put them ahead, 5-4. The Orioles responded with back-to-back blows by Robinson and Powell in the seventh and added their final run on a single by Robinson and double by Powell in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
