. . . where the 1970s live forever!

George Culver, facing his former teammates for the first time, pitched the Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the Reds, whose defense failed rookie Wayne Simpson. Tony Perez, who accounted for the Reds' run with a homer in the eighth inning, set an N. L. record for most round-trippers in the month of April, with 9.

Simpson yielded only three hits, including a homer by Lou Brock in the first inning. Culver singled in the eighth and Jose Cardenal was safe on an error by Perez. With two out, Joe Torre hit a pop fly into short center field and when Dave Concepcion dropped the ball, both Culver and Cardenal scored. [The Sporting News]
