For the the second time in one week, Willie Stargell smashed a homer over the right field roof at Forbes Field and provided the Pirates with an 8-7 victory over the Braves. Rico Carty homered for the Braves, who went ahead, 7-4, with three runs in the seventh inning on a walk, double by Carty and singles by Tony Gonzalez and Bob Priddy.

In the Bucs' half, Freddie Patek tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matty Alou. Richie Hebner doubled and crossed the plate on a single by Roberto Clemente. Then with two out, Stargell hit his drive over the roof. The feat had been accomplished only 18 times, but seven times by Stargell, in the park's history. [The Sporting News]
