Although forced to call on six pitchers, the Orioles were able to beat the Royals, 10-9, marking their 14th straight victory over the expansion club since losing their initial meeting, 4-2, on May 9, 1969. Brooks Robinson batted in four runs with a pair of doubles and Davey Johnson homered with a man on base to pace the Orioles to a 7-4 lead after four and one-half innings.

Ed Kirkpatrick homered for the Royals in the fifth, Bob Oliver followed with a three-run blast in the sixth and Pat Kelly singled to drive in another Kaycee run in the seventh. However, in the eighth, Clay Dalrymple walked, Terry Crowley singled and Don Buford won the game for the Orioles by hitting a homer. [The Sporting News]
