Luis Tiant not only pitched a three-hitter, but collected three hits himself, to feature the Twins' 6-0 victory over the Tigers. Mickey Lolich, who had pitched five straight complete games, was kayoed in the sixth when the Twins scored four runs. The outburst started with a two-out single by Frank Quilici. Tiant doubled, scoring Quilici, and then stole third, catching the Tigers by surprise. Cesar Tovar followed with a single and Leo Cardenas tripled to chase Lolich.
