. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Expos bounced back after absorbing an 11-1 pounding in the first game of a doubleheader and beat the Giants in the second game, 3-2. In the first inning of the lidlifter, Willie McCovey hit a grand-slam homer off Bill Stoneman after the Giants had loaded the bases on walks to Bobby Bonds and Willie Mays around a single by Ron Hunt. McCovey also hit a bases-empty homer in the fifth and Bonds rapped one in the sixth before Dick Dietz wound up the Giants' bombardment with a grand slam in the eighth. A single by Bonds and passes to Hunt and McCovey set the stage for Dietz' smash off Carroll Sembera. Mike McCormick breezed to victory with a three-hitter.

Carl Morton, who started his career in the minors as an outfielder, made his first major league start in the nightcap and was the Expos' winner. Mack Jones backed the rookie with a triple and double. Ken Henderson drove in the Giants' runs with a homer in the sixth inning. [The Sporting News]
