The Cubs posted their 11th straight victory -- the club's longest winning streak since 1945 -- taking advantage of an unearned run to beat the Pirates, 1-0. With two out in the third inning, Glenn Beckert tripled and scored when the relay from the outfield bounced off catcher Manny Sanguillen's glove.

Joe Decker, who started for the Cubs, ran into serious trouble when Roberto Clemente tripled with one away in the ninth. Hank Aguirre relieved and passed Bob Robertson. Al Oliver then tapped to Aguirre, who caught Clemente off third base. Phil Regan replaced Aguirre to face Jerry May, who ended the game by grounding into a forceout at third. [The Sporting News]
