With two out in the third inning, Glenn Beckert tripled and scored when the relay from the outfield bounced off catcher Manny Sanguillen's glove.

Joe Decker, who started for the Cubs, ran into serious trouble when Roberto Clemente tripled with one away in the ninth. Hank Aguirre relieved and passed Bob Robertson.
