Hitting his the first homer of the season, Al Kaline helped send the Tigers on their way to an 8-3 victory over the Royals. Joe Niekro and Dick McAuliffe doubled and Mickey Stanley singled for two runs in the third inning before Kaline added two more with his circuit clout. The Royals scored their runs in the sixth when Jim Rooker was safe on an error and Lou Piniella and Paul Schaal homered on consecutive pitches. [The Sporting News]
