A pinch-homer by Rick Joseph in the 10th inning carried the Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the Dodgers. Dick Selma was the winner in relief, but the righthander figured in an unusual bit of strategy by Manager Frank Lucchesi in the Dodgers' half of the 10th. When the Dodgers put two men on base with walks with two out, Selma went to third base, replacing Tony Taylor, and lefthander Joe Hoerner came to the mound to face Willie Davis, who popped up to end the game.

The score was tied, 1-1, until the eighth when Billy Grabarkewitz homered to put the Dodgers ahead, but Larry Hisle saved the Phillies from defeat by hitting for the circuit with two out in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
