In a crushing comeback, the Braves scored four runs in the eighth inning and then exploded for five more in the ninth to defeat the Cardinals, 10-6. Homers by Dick Allen and Joe Hague paced the Cardinals to a 6-1 lead before the Braves went to work in the eighth with a double by Sonny Jackson, singles by Tony Gonzalez and Hank Aaron, a double by Orlando Cepeda and single by Felix Millan. In the ninth, a walk, a single by Aaron and double by Rico Carty tied the score with one away. After a pass to Cepeda, Allen booted a potential double-play grounder off the bat of Millan, Aaron scoring. Carty counted on a wild pitch and Bob Priddy then wrapped up the victory with a two-run single. [The Sporting News] |
