A perfect throw to the plate by Tony Oliva in the fifth inning proved to be the big play as the Twins nipped the Indians, 1-0. Ray Fosse singled, stopped at second on a hit by Eddie Leon and then tried to score a on single by Jack Heidemann, but was nailed on Oliva's peg from right field.

Oliva scored the Twins' run in the third after forcing Leo Cardenas, who had singled. Oliva took second on a single by Harmon Killebrew and crossed the plate when Graig Nettles muffed a grounder by Rich Reese. Tony Horton doubled and Roy Foster walked for the Indians in the ninth, but Stan Williams replaced Jim Kaat and saved the game by picking Horton off second. [The Sporting News]
