Al Gallagher, who had gone hitless in his 26 previous times at bat, came through with a pinch single in the eighth inning when the Giants scored three runs to defeat the Mets, 8-6. With the Mets leading, 6-5, Ken Henderson bunted safely in the eighth and with two out Bob Burda walked. Gallagher then hit his single, scoring Henderson with the tying run. After a walk to Bobby Bonds filled the bases, Ron Hunt sent the Giants ahead with a single and when Willie Mays was hit by a pitch, the final run was forced across the plate.
