Tommy John, who had lost five straight decisions, received credit for his first victory of the season when four unearned runs enabled the White Sox to defeat the Orioles, 6-3. A wild throw by Andy Etchebarren, after fielding a tap by Carlos May, opened the doors for the White Sox in the sixth inning. May reached third on the error and scored on a single by Bill Melton. Two walks then loaded the bases and the White Sox added three runs on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Knoop and singles by John and Tommy McCraw.
