Nolan Ryan set the Mets' club record for the most walks issued by a pitcher in a game, passing eight, but the fireballing righthander yielded only three hits and beat the Giants, 4-1. Mike McCormick, who was the Giants' loser, walked only two, but both passes came in the first inning around a single by Donn Clendenon to load the bases and Joe Foy followed with a single, driving in two runs.

A triple by Bud Harrelson and single by Cleon Jones added a tally in the fifth and Tommie Agee homered for the Mets' final run in the seventh. The Giants' run counted in the third on a walk, a single by Hal Lanier, a sacrifice and an infield out by Bobby Bonds. [The Sporting News]
