Sending eight men to the plate, the Indians scored four runs in an eighth-inning rally to defeat the Royals, 7-5. With Lou Piniella hitting a three-run homer in the first inning, the Royals were ahead, 5-3, before the Indians came back. Ted Uhlaender doubled home the first run in the eighth, Tony Horton knocked in two with a double as a pinch-hitter for Phil Hennigan and Vada Pinson capped the rally with a triple.
