Led by Jesus Alou, who collected three hits and figured in the scoring of five runs, the Astros broke an eight-game losing streak by defeating the Cardinals, 9-3. Joe Morgan singled in the first inning, Alou doubled and both crossed plate on a single by Tommy Davis. The Astros loaded the bases in the fourth and after Morgan walked to force in one run, Alou cleared the sacks with a double.
