. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Although Willie Stargell hit a grand-slam homer, the Reds were able to defeat the Pirates, 6-4. Johnny Bench homered for the Reds after Bobby Tolan and Tony Perez walked in the fourth inning. With other RBIs on singles by Tommy Helms, Perez and Pete Rose, the Reds held a 6-0 lead before Stargell's slam off Wayne Simpson in the seventh.

When Roberto Clemente singled for the Pirates with two out in the ninth, Manager Sparky Anderson of the Reds sent reliever Wayne Granger to left field and called on Don Gullett, who struck out Stargell to end the game. [The Sporting News]
