With two out in the eighth inning, an intentional pass backfired on the Tigers when the White Sox scored two runs on singles by Ed Herrmann and Bobby Knoop to gain a 3-2 victory. Tommy McCraw led off the stanza with a single, but Carlos May grounded out and Syd O'Brien struck out. The Tigers then handed a pass to Gail Hopkins to get at Herrmann, who wrecked the move with a single, tying the score. Knoop followed with a single to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
