Forming the Giants' slugging combo, Willie McCovey and Dick Dietz each hit his seventh homer of the season to mark a 7-1 victory over the Phillies. McCovey whacked his homer in the fourth inning after Ron Hunt was hit by a pitch and Willie Mays walked. Mays singled in the sixth and scored on a double by McCovey. Dietz wrapped up the Giants' scoring with a three-run drive in the eighth.

The Phillies' first and second-string catchers, Tim McCarver and Mike Ryan, suffered metacarpal fractures in successive innings. [The Sporting News]
