Jim McGlothlin not only pitched a six-hitter, but tripled with the bases loaded to seal the Reds' 7-2 victory over the Pirates. Al Oliver, who had a homer and single, drove in both of the Pirates' runs. The Reds broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning with a double by Bobby Tolan, an infield out and a sacrifice fly by Lee May.
