After accepting a gift of two runs in the sixth inning, the Twins scored twice on a homer by Harmon Killebrew in the ninth and beat the Orioles, 4-3. With two men on and two out in the sixth, Davey Johnson bobbled a grounder by Tony Oliva and then threw wildly, allowing the Twins to tie the game at 2-2.

Merv Rettenmund sent the Orioles ahead again with a homer in the eighth, but Oliva singled in the ninth and Killebrew decided the outcome with his round-tripper. Jim Kaat was the winning pitcher with Ron Perranoski's help. [The Sporting News]
