. . . where the 1970s live forever!
Mike Epstein broke a tie with a two-run homer in the seventh inning to carry the Senators to a 6-4 victory in splitting a doubleheader with the Athletics, who won the first game, 3-1.

Blue Moon Odom was announced as the Athletics' starting pitcher for the opener, but reinjured his ailing right elbow while warming up. The umpires, however, ordered him to take the mound. After retiring the first batter on a grounder, Odom yielded to Rollie Fingers, who hurled the rest of the way and checked the Senators on five hits. Reggie Jackson homered for the A's. Epstein's winning smash for the Senators in the nightcap came with two out after a walk to Frank Howard. [The Sporting News]
