. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The slugging of Johnny Bench, who hit a homer and two doubles, led the Reds' attack in an 11-7 victory over the Pirates. Bench's first double helped the Reds score two runs in the first inning. The All-Star catcher hit his homer with two men on base in the third. After the Pirates tightened the game with the aid of a round-tripper by Bob Robertson, Bench doubled in the seventh to set off a four-run outburst by the Reds. Two of the runners raced home on a wild pitch by Joe Gibbon. [The Sporting News]
