Larry Dierker yielded only four hits and pitched the Astros to a 3-1 victory over the Cubs. Jim Wynn, who collected three of the Astros' nine hits off Fergie Jenkins, doubled in the first inning and scored on a two-bagger by Joe Pepitone. Norm Miller homered in the third. After Ron Santo hit for the circuit to give the Cubs their run in the sixth, the Astros wound up the scoring with a triple by Joe Morgan and single by Wynn in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
