After falling behind in the first inning, 7-0, the Padres battled their way back and overhauled the Phillies, 11-8. Larry Hisle and Mike Compton each homered with a man on base in the Phillies' initial outburst. Steve Huntz and Al Ferrara hit two-run homers and Ollie Brown added a solo swat as the Padres whittled away at their deficit.

Still one run behind at 8-7 going into the ninth, the Padres opened the inning with a double by Huntz and went into the lead when Cito Gaston hit for the circuit. Nate Colbert and Brown followed with singles and Ron Slocum drove them home with a double to clinch the verdict. [The Sporting News]
