Getting three-hit pitching from Wayne Simpson, their rookie sensation, the Reds defeated the Cardinals, 5-1, for their seventh straight victory. Dick Allen homered for the Cardinals' run in the second inning. The Reds went ahead in the fourth with a homer by Bobby Tolan, double by Johnny Bench, an infield out and a wild pitch by Steve Carlton. Lee May added a two-run homer in the sixth and Bobby Tolan singled in the final run in the seventh.
