Sam McDowell struck out 15 batters, but the Indians' southpaw lost to the White Sox, 2-1, because of his inability to stop Carlos May. The White Sox outfielder tripled and scored on a throwing error by McDowell in the seventh inning and then won the game by breaking the 1-1 tie with a homer in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
