Rookie Danny Walton, who was Player of the Year in the minor leagues in 1969, hit his ninth homer of the season to provide the Brewers' deciding run in a 5-1 victory over the Red Sox. After Walton's blast made it 2-0 in the seventh inning, Carl Yastrzemski batted in the Red Sox run with a single in the eighth. The ball struck Lew Krausse on his left shoulder, forcing the Brewers' starter to leave the game. The Brewers loaded the bases in their half of the eighth and clinched the verdict with three runs on a grounder by Russ Snyder and wild throw by Mike Andrews.
