The Orioles continued to exercise their hex over the Royals when Frank Robinson smashed a homer with two men on base and two out in the ninth inning to beat the expansion club, 7-6. The victory was the Orioles' 17th in succession over the Royals since a loss in their the first meeting on May 9, 1969.

Boog Powell homered with two on base for the Orioles in the first inning, but the Royals batted their way to a 6-4 lead with aid of a homer and single by Bob Oliver, who drove in four runs. In the Orioles' ninth, Terry Crowley walked with one out and Merv Rettenmund drew a pass with two away before Robinson hit his homer. [The Sporting News]
