After taking a 7-0 lead with the aid of homers by Tony Oliva and Harmon Killebrew, the Twins survived rallies by the Tigers and emerged with a 9-6 victory. Jim Perry, pitching for the Twins, gave up a leadoff single to Dick McAuliffe and then held the Tigers hitless until being kayoed during a four-run uprising in the seventh inning. Bill Freehan homered for the Tigers in the ninth. Oliva hit his round-tripper with a man on base in the first and Killebrew connected with two aboard in the seventh. Rod Carew and Oliva worked a double steal in the eighth, Carew scoring.
