The Pirates scored four runs with two homers in the first inning and added four more with only one single in the eighth to defeat the Astros, 9-5, snapping a seven-game losing streak. Freddie Patek and Matty Alou singled and Willie Stargell and Bob Robertson hit back-to-back homers in the first.

Jose Pagan walked in the eighth and, after a sacrifice, pinch-runner Johnny Jeter scored on a single by Al Oliver to break the  5-5 tie. After a pair of passes loaded the bases, Oliver scored on a wild pitch and two more runs followed on a passed ball. [The Sporting News]
